Decisions
A decision is a confirmed proposal for one item. A person confirms it in the workspace. AI tools cannot.
The four outcomes
| Outcome | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Keep | The work stays as it is. Record the reason. |
| Change | The work stays in a different form. Say where the necessary judgement goes. |
| Stop | The work stops as a bounded trial with an owner, a review date, and restart conditions. |
| Investigate | The evidence is not enough. Record what to find out and who can answer. |
All four are normal results. Keeping work with a clear purpose is a result.
1. Create a proposal
Your AI tool may already have proposed one. To create one yourself:
-
Open the project and select the Decisions view.
-
Select New proposal. You can also open an item on the map and select Propose… in its panel.
-
Fill in the form and select Save proposal:
Field Enter Item The item the decision is about Proposal Investigate, Keep, Change, or Stop Reasons for and against The case for keeping and the case for the change, in one place Evidence The evidence records that support the reasons Owner The person accountable for the outcome Scope What exactly changes or stops Unresolved dependencies Work or systems that still depend on the item. Leave empty when none Review date When to check the result Restart conditions What would show that the work needs to come back
2. Check what is missing
The Decisions view has three columns:
- Needs detail: proposals that cannot be confirmed yet. Each shows how many fields are missing.
- Ready to confirm: proposals that meet the requirements.
- Decided: confirmed decisions.
A proposal can be confirmed when:
- It has an Owner.
- For Stop, it also has a Scope, a Review date, and Restart conditions, and the Unresolved dependencies field is empty.
Open a proposal in Needs detail, select Edit, complete the fields, and select Save revision.
3. Confirm
- Open the proposal in Ready to confirm.
- Select Confirm….
- Select Confirm decision.
Confirming saves the proposal exactly as it was when you confirmed it. The decision moves to Decided with the date.
4. Record what happened
Open a decision at or after its review date.
- Select Record follow-up.
- Enter the Observed outcome. Include any displaced work and any reason to restart.
- Select Record.
You can add more than one follow-up to a decision. The decision then shows as followed up.
Revise a decision
- Open the decision.
- Select Revise proposal.
- Change the fields and select Save revision.
A revision needs a new confirmation. The earlier decision stays on record.
